Preamble information:
Members, pleased see the above link for the proposed new Rules for the Australian Capital Territory Canine Association (Dogs ACT), to replace the existing Constitution. These Rules have been prepared by the established working group with assistance from a law firm.
The purpose of the new Rules is to:
- align our governing document with our governing legislation the Associations Incorporation Act 1991 (ACT) and their suggested model rules; and
- update our governance processes to reflect our current practices and make other amendments.
Voting Members will be asked to vote on a special resolution at the AGM on 3 September 2024 to adopt the new Rules. This special resolution will ask Members to resolve that, with effect on and from the date of the special resolution, the existing Constitution of the Association be deleted in its entirety and be replaced by the new Rules (or words to similar effect).
Dogs ACT also intends to formally change its name to ‘Dogs ACT Incorporated’. To achieve this, voting Members will also be asked to vote on a special resolution at the AGM on 3 September 2024 to approve the name change. This special resolution will ask Members to resolve that the Association apply to the registrar-general for approval to adopt the name ‘Dogs ACT Incorporated’ in accordance with clause 38 of the Associations Incorporation Act 1991 (ACT) (or words to similar effect). As indicated by the wording of this resolution, the name change is subject to the approval of the registrar-general.
